Itchy And Flaky Scalp
Itchy Scalp : Side-Effects of Para-Phenylenediamine (PPD)
My scalp began itching after about a year of monthly applications. I figured i was getting dandruff so I purchased ‘Head and Shoulders’ and it took care of it for a short time. Therefore I continued coloring my hair.
A year or so passed and the itching came back even though i was still using Head and Shoulders. So I purchased some anti-itching liquids and applied them directly to the affected areas. It stopped the itching for about half-hour but then it would resume.
Pretty soon it escalated to a full-blown burning sensation. It’d actually wake me up in the middle of the night and the only way I could quell the irritation was by taking a stiff brush and scrubbing my scalp with it. Eventually, and most disturbingly, i started to feel lumps all over my scalp! Blisters apparently. I was horrified!
This whole episode had crept up so gradually that it took a moment before i noticed it might have something to do with my hair dye. After all I had been
Applying the stuff for years. When this finally did occur to me, I went on the internet and researched the various chemicals listed on my hair dye container. One of them was Para-Phenylenediamine (PPD). It took only a couple different sites before i was convinced that Para-Phenylenediamine (PPD) was the culprit.
In fact, I discovered i was lucky compared to some folks. One website claims that completely different folks have differing levels of reactions to para-phenylenediamine (PPD). Some get a terrible reaction after just one application while others do not start showing signs till after twenty five or more applications. And still others – the real lucky ones – never have a reaction at all.
One woman said it got so bad for her that her whole body eventually became allergic to pretty much any sort of chemical containing dyes or perfumes (including makeup, deodorant…etc.). So she had to move out of the city to stay away from folks in general. According to her doctor it was a permanent condition. She claimed that certain chemicals may really send her into anaphylaxis and kill her!
I am positively lucky compared to her.
I am also lucky because my wife immediately went onto the internet and found a beautiful natural hair-coloring product. It’s called “Light Mountain natural Color the Gray! Hair color and conditioner.” It’s 100% pure botanical Hair Color and can be found in Whole Food stores. Not only does it not cause itching in my scalp, it also appears to have reduced my current itching to almost nothing. i get the occasional itch here and there, but over all I feel like I’ve been given a second chance at life!
